Drum roll please... Jack's surgery went awesome! Yeah! We are very excited as is Jack, everything went great. Actually we thought his leg looked awesome the night before and maybe they wouldn't want to do any debridement at all was our hope. But Jack and I aren't doctors so we need to listen to the professionals. Dr. Harland said he couldn't believe how great Jack's leg looked and he didn't need to do as much scraping as he had assumed. He also says Jack will probably not need skin grafting and will heal fairly quickly now. We won't see the doctor again for a week. Jack is to remain at home with his leg elevated to avoid risk of infection for the next several weeks, but not the next several months as we thought. Does anyone remember a year ago when Becky was going to have to remain at home with her leg elevated and no weight on it for 3 months and was able to put weight on it immediately? (FYI not a burn but a fracture) Or how about when Mary was a baby and we went to the hospital for surgery on her neck planning to stay for a week and they sent us home when it was done! Boy do we get blessed at our house! Jack does have some pain, but we can keep it under control with medication. He was very nervous about the surgery and about getting put under. He had quite a bit of anxiety, but when it was all over he felt excited and said "I can't believe I was so worried about this". Today Jack and I will have to change the bandage by ourselves, we are a little nervous about that. Chris has school and then work till 8pm so we are on our own. We can do it!
Jack getting prepped for surgery. He shows his anxiety by acting silly. The nurses asked him if he has been taking acting classes at school because he is such a goof ball. As the nurses wheeled Jack away to the surgery room we heard him yelling "weeee...." as they went down the hall. ( I should add that was before they doped him up)I tried to take a few pictures I thought Lisa might've taken if she was with us.
Doesn't that look scary!
Jack's feet!
All done and almost ready to go home. Jack was hurting but in good spirits, he is hugging his big stuffed black lab. If the pictures of the dressing change aren't too disgusting we will post them later. Thanks for all the prayers!

I am soooo relieved to hear that Jack won't need a skin graft! What a trooper you are Jack! Thanks for updating us regularly Polly.
Way to go Jack, I am so proud of you, and your parents too. It's been a couple rough days but soon you will up and running like before. and maybe just have a little scar to remember this all. Hugs and kisses to all.
I'm so glad that all went well!
Wow - things happen fast at your house! I'm glad to hear you're so well watched over and Jack is doing well (you are too?) -- I was thinking of you yesterday as I drove through your old neighborhood -- miss you!
I love miracles!
Jack,
Aunt Laura and I are wishing you well and send our love and hugs. I am most assured that Ice Cream is also a universal cure-all for pain and discomfort. Cool scars on guys are conversation starters. No worries.
