Ride to the Farmer's Market

Kathryn and her dad rode their bikes all the way to the Clark Fork Farmer's Market. They were hoping to find fresh tomatoes even though it is still a little early in the season. Mom was a little worried about the distance (2.5 miles each way!) but Kathryn was confident she could do it.

Starting off for the market. Kathryn showing off mad trick skills by only using one hand.

Her eyes are open, but it was pretty sunny out.

Still going strong after about a mile. Go Kathryn

Part of the trail system along the Clark Fork was dirt. This was a new challenge for Kathryn. She did great.

Getting across the river on the foot bridge.

Riding along the river. You can see Lolo Peak just above the trees. A backcountry skier we know told me there was still 15-20 feet of snow in some of the coulees up there. This may be the start of a new glacial period.

Concentrating on the task at hand. Not looking at the scenery.

Live Music at the Market's center stage.

Enjoying some Rocky Mountain jammin' while eating a Sponge Bob-cicle

Taking a ride on a HOT trout.

On the way home. No tomatoes, but we picked up some red onions, beets, and scallions (seen here). And in the bottom of the basket, freshly picked strawberries and snow peas.
We had a great time at the market. The Missoula market is more like a fair than a farmer's market, with music, food vendors, artists, assorted jugglers and performers. This week is the Missoula Marathon, so the marathon Expo was going on downtown as well, so Kathryn did some rock-wall climbing, baseball, and gymnastics as well, and still rode home without a complaint. In fact, as we get nearing to home she kept challenging me to races. All in all, a perfect Missoula day, the kind that makes people who live here think it is the center of the universe.

Wow! Kathryn is amazing! Next time Jack and I will come with too instead of cleaning the house. That looks like such a nice bike ride. What a strong and healthy girl Kathryn is.

Love this post! I can't believe she made it all the way terr and back, I doubt I could! And I'm jealous you have strawberries, our market has none yet.
